PERUVIAN CHULLO by Threads for Dreams
PERUVIAN CHULLO by Threads for Dreams
Threads for Dreams: Threads with History promotes local development in Tolconi through community dialogue with the local culture and biodiversity. Thanks to a relationship of mutual trust with the community, the project operates under the principle of respecting the traditional methods, knowledge, and organizational structures of the women of Tolconi.
At over 4,500 meters above sea level, the women of the Tolconi community work with camelids. Thanks to their ancestral knowledge, they produce 100% handmade yarn. Their artisanal work is based on the conservation of the environment and the biodiversity of the Tolconi alpacas. All Threads for Dreams yarns have a natural color. Each fiber is hand-selected and sorted before undergoing a careful washing process in the city of Arequipa. Thus, for the baby alpaca yarn to reach us, the fiber returns to the Tolconi community to be spun by the women of the community. A thread of life with a story.
This garment is made entirely from natural-colored fibers of alpacas raised in Tolconi. The base yarn (paco) undergoes part of its processing in Arequipa, where it is washed and carded before being returned to the community for spinning and hand-weaving. The cream and cappuccino yarns are made from fibers obtained manually using traditional methods, prioritizing the well-being of the alpacas. They are spun and woven by hand without the use of any chemicals.
